WA winemaker Brad Wehr is at it again.
His latest creation is a blend of Greco di Tufo, Arinto and Fiano from Ashley Ratcliff’s Ricca Terra Farms vineyard in the Riverlands.
The three varieties are co-fermented in old white barrels with the lees stirred through regularly. Brad’s thumbprints are all over this wine. It’s bright and cheerful, surprisingly serious and yet super approachable.
For fascination vs. price, it’s hard to go past the Amato Vino wines and this is one of his most interesting and easy drinking releases to date.
What It Tastes Like
Honeycomb and frangipani, raw nuts and lemon meringue pie. Gee it smells good. So interesting but not in a ‘that’s freaky’ kind of way. The palate carries a certain amount of weight. There’ faint chalkiness there and some tart citrus notes. Great wine. What a surprise packet!
|**2016 AMATO VINO FIELD BLEND [GRECO DI TUFO||ARINTO||FIANO]**|
Two Italians and a Portuguese picked together and co-fermented wild in aged white oak, with regular soft lees stirring over three months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Sweet aromas of marshmallow, toast and honey, with some tangy spice and floral citrus blossom. The palate shows mango, apricot and sweet white peach. Deep, viscous and oily texture with a lovely saline thread running through.
All three getting along just fine.
