- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Great value Fiano here from winemaker Alex Russell. The Riverland is proving to be a very happy hunting ground for those looking for interesting varieties at a bargain price. This is yet another example of just that. This is a crisp and crunchy version of Fiano that is varietal and easy to knock back. It was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2016 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show, putting it in amongst the top examples to enter the show. A dry white with a difference for a good price. Wins all round, here.
What it Tastes Like
Apple, lemon, lime and a hint of nuttiness. It's fresh and crisp with clear acidity but with a subtle roundness in the mouth which is full flavoured and moreish. It's a great alternative dry white for the price.
Gold Medal - Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show 2016
Pale green straw in appearance, Fiano is characterised by custard apple and fresh ginger. At a touch over 13% ABV, this wine has a moderately bodied palate with a small percentage of juice added back pre bottling to balance sugar and acidity.

About the Producer
Alex Russell Wines
Alex Russell is on a mission to make the best value, premium versions of alternative varieties in the country. From his home in the Riverlands region, he’s making a very good fist of it. His wines consistently over-deliver and have been very successful on the competitive wine show circuit. Top value with interest to boot.
The sky is the limit for the new look Riverlands. Known historically as a place for producing bulk wine grapes, there is plenty of exploration happening in this region. It is the ideal place to trial new varieties for the country, the warm dry climate suiting many Mediterranean varieties to a tee.
Fiano is one of the most promising emerging white varieties in Australia. It’s a variety that likes to be warm and dry, exactly the kind of variety that is perfectly sustainable in Australia. Characterised by fresh fruit flavours, refreshing acidity and a lovely, slightly waxy mouthfeel, Fiano is a variety that is prospering across the country. It makes a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Gris which is far better suited to the Australian climate.
