The Wines for Joanie Portrait Pinot Noir is an affable, approachable style of Pinot Noir from the hallowed turf of Tamar Valley, Tasmania. The fruit is grown as a labour of love by owners Andrew & Prue O'Shanesy. It's made in a classic style, the fruit crushed and destemmed before being laid to sleep in older oak before bottling. It shows honestly the characters of their much-loved vineyard and is very good value if you are in search of Pinot Noir from Tasmania that will not bust the bank.
What it Tastes Like
Softly fruited. Wisps of white pepper, moss, undergrowth and hints of smoked game waft from the glass. It's all soft squished strawberry fruit picked just on ripe. A level of savouriness finds its way into the finish which is delightful. Lovely Pinot for the price.
Growing gorgeous balanced fruit is a labour of love and an undervalued art. We’re both from farming backgrounds so it’s no surprise that Viticulture is what we are all about. We don’t subscribe to any specific viticultural systems or theories, instead choosing to use a combination of sciences and what feels right. This is hands on grape growing. In Tasmania we’re blessed with a long, cool growing season, which combined with good vine health and balance can produce intense, rich varietal characters in our fruit. Classic winemaking approach. Crushed. Destemmed. Matured for nine months in seasoned oak.
