- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Pfeiffer family have been farming and making wine for four generations. The Whistler brand is something of an institution in the Barossa these days but with fourth generation Pfeiffer Josh now taking the winemaking reins, the brand is undergoing a facelift. The Shock Value red blend is a wine built for Barossa lovers who need a good, honest mid-week drink. Created by Josh, this is meant as a modern entry point into the Whistler range. The fruit is sourced from multiple organically farmed vineyards across the Barossa. The blend, while kept a secret, speaks more of the region than of any specific variety. With generous fruit and a soft, sumptuous palate, the Shock Value is the perfect go-to if looking for good value, classic Aussie Claret.
What it Tastes Like
Ripe with fruit characters of blackberry, raspberry, bramble and a touch of black olive savouriness. It's thickly fruited but with soft, velvety tannins. Glubable and classically Barossan. Good gear at this price.
FRUIT SOURCE This blend is made up of fruit sourced from our Heysen Estate, and from another vineyard in Western Barossa. The blend is a secret, so I don’t want to give away too much information, but I will tell you that the vineyards are all managed organically, and they are some extremely good vineyards. WINE MAKING All of our red wines are fermented with wild yeast in small open fermenters. This blend was put together after each of the components was fermented separately, some of which were fermented in old concrete fermenters, while the others were in stainless steel. Each parcel of fruit varied with the amount of time on skins, ranging from 7-18 days before they were basket pressed to tank. A portion of this wine was aged in old oak for 6 month, while the remainder stayed in stainless steel tank to retain freshness. THE WINE A mystery blend of red varieties makes up this exciting wine. Designed to be smashable, this is a really aromatic, light, vibrant style of red wine that is perfect drinking all on it’s own. Having said that, this also goes really well with pizza or a BBQ with friends. We would love for you to take a photo of the label and share it on social media- #whistlerwines or tag us @whistlerwines. See if you can guess which varieties make up this blend. TECHNICAL DATA pH: 3.57 T.A.: 6.82 g/l Alcohol: 13.5% RECOMMENDED CELLARING Drink it now, but if you like more secondary characters, it will age gracefully up to 2021.

About the Producer
Whistler is a boutique family-owned Barossa Valley producer. The next generation of Pfeiffers have recently taken over the reigns, transforming this reliable producer with a range of colourful, boundary-pushing reds aimed at younger customers and easy-drinking. The quality and value on offer are both excellent.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
