Westwood is made by one of the Yarra Valley's favourite sons, Mac Forbes. The 2015 Westwood Chardonnay is a slightly riper, more textural version of Yarra Chardonnay from Mac. Mac's own label typically releases a leaner and tighter version of Chardonnay. The fruit that doesn't quite fit that job description finds its way into Westwood. Exceptional value for money, fans of Yarra Chardonnay should not hesitate. An excellent vintage, an excellent winemaker, all boxes ticked here with this wine.
What it Tastes Like
White peach and struck flint, mineral and typically racy acid from Mac. The fruit is a little more generous though, with good weight and juiciness. A bit of texture and chewy though still a leaner style in the scheme of things. Gives a lot of Chardonnay for the dollars. So tasty.
Fruit sourced from the Coldstream Hills region of the Yarra Valley. Whole bunch pressed, wild Yeasts, no MLF, raised in used oak for only three months. Light filtration due to minimal sulphur addition.
