Why You'll Love It
Vinteloper main man Dave Bowley certainly isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of conventional winemaking, and the Urban Winery Project does just that.
The story in a nutshell is that he takes all his tools of the trade and plonks them down in an absurdly busy area of a major city (in the case of the 2015 release - in Northcote in Melbourne). Over the coming weeks he takes some locally sourced fruit and proceeds to make a wine with locally sourced people, helping educate people on the winemaking process and having a great time while they do it.
Bowley intentionally keeps the winemaking details rather secret, preferring instead to concentrate on the final slurpable product, and as Dave puts it, “a wine by the people, for the people.”
What we can tell you is that it is a Victorian blend of Shiraz and Malbec, and that it is absolutely delicious. It’s one of those easy-to-love, “one glass is not enough” types of wine. Eye- catching packaging too!
Casting aside the unique inspiration of the Urban Winery Project this is a super wine, and just one of those innovative, small batch (just 187 dozen produced), eye-catching drops to wow your company at the dinner table.
What It Tastes Like
Ripe blueberries and plums and all spice on the nose. Round, juicy, sweet dark fruit on the palate, with some meatiness too. Soft vanillin oak, subtle tannins and a heart-warming finish that leaves you wanting more. Balanced, playful and delicious.

2014 vintage: 92 points. “This 2014 is the third release. It was made at the Adelaide Central Market in Feb/March 2014.
David Bowley clearly has a keen eye for style, in the way he makes wine, presents it, and indeed crafts it. This third release of his Urban Winery Project is super delicious and of the moment, with vibrant fruit dancing through the palate, its flecks of spice/meat/woodsmoke a bonus but not a distraction. This is terrific drinking, no bones about it. Anywhere, anytime; preferably sooner than later.”

This is a wine by the people, for the people. A blend of the best components of the batches produced at the Urban Winery Project Season 4, held in Melbourne during March 2015. Literally hundreds of people helped foot stomp, basket press & transfer this wine to oak for maturation, tasting it along the way.
The mantra of the Urban Winery Project is participation, education and a healthy dose of emancipation. Not to mention collaboration, as the UWP Red # 3 label was created for us by renowned street artist Alex Lehours (@alexlehours).
