- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Dave Bowley is passionate about Pinot Noir and that passion is clear to see in this wine. It's sourced from a single Adelaide Hills vineyard in Norton Summit, where precious few grapes are picked and made - with as minimal intervention as possible - into this classy Pinot. With 33% whole bunches and 33% new oak it packs quite a punch in terms of flavour and weight, but never loses the variety's required delicacy and fragrance. In his 93 point review Campbell Mattinson labelled it "... a beauty", this is high-quality Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir from a high-quality producer. Pinot lovers get on board.
What it Tastes Like
"I was having one of those weekends where every wine I opened seemed to disappoint, for one reason or another. I started to wonder whether it was me. Then I opened this, and it swept all aside. It’s a beauty. It’s spicy and creamy at once, it’s heart of clovey cherry wrapped in complex notes of earth, chicory and sweet spices. Tannin is chalky and firm and impressive; as indeed is the wine as a whole." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
93 points. "Grown on the Morialta Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills vineyard. Some whole bunches. Unfined and unfiltered. The handiwork of the superfit David Bowley. One of the best producers in the hills. I was having one of those weekends where every wine I opened seemed to disappoint, for one reason or another. I started to wonder whether it was me. Then I opened this, and it swept all aside. It’s a beauty. It’s spicy and creamy at once, it’s heart of clovey cherry wrapped in complex notes of earth, chicory and sweet spices. Perfume of cherry, mineral earth, florals & spice lead out with aplomb. The freshness & vibrancy immediately apparent as you ease into the palate. Layered & complex cherry, plum & berry fruits emerge then the second wave, minerality again, with thyme, cinnamon & woodsmoke. Unfurling as smooth as silk. Measured vineyard inputs, precise harvest timing & minimal intervention winemaking are the technically important features here. Our belief is that production of Pinot Noir is rarely without obstacle. That's why we love it & praise those accomplished seasons.

About the Producer
Vineloper, from the Adelaide Hills, is one of the most progressive and exciting wine operations in the country. David Bowley’s wines are current, topical, presented beautifully and most importantly DAMN GOOD DRINKING! His Urban Winery Project brings the winemaking experience to the people of Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Bowley embodies everything about the Australia’s young winemaking culture and he is continuously pushing the envelope.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
