- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard a little off the beaten track. Fifteen minutes inland from Port Campbell, this dry grown vineyard produced small but intense fruit during the 2015 season. It's showing its best right now. The 2015 is in peak form. If you are looking for a different expression of Pinot Noir that isn't from 'the same old' regions, this is a great wine to check out.
What it Tastes Like
Bright, perky, youthful pinot noir, here. Some earthy base notes give some grounding to the starberry and crushed raspberry fruit flavours. Really succulent with refreshing acidity and fine, whole-bunchy tannin. Bright, delicious, charming Pinot with character.
From an obscure site capable of producing some very interesting wine due to its extreme climate. 15min inland from Port Campbell, home of the 12 apostles, is Newton’s Ridge Vineyard. It is a very small site planted from cuttings in 1998 to the MV6 clone of Pinot Noir, on brown and grey fertile loam soils over limestone bedrock. 2015 was an even, moderate year, with average yields but tiny berries. The wine is delicate, with hallmark strawberry, pippy fruit and spice. It was matured without racking in a mix of older French puncheons and barriques, for 9 months. Unfined and unfiltered, I think this vineyard is starting to shed its adolescence and gain some consistency. A delicious, early drinking vintage.

About the Producer
The Story makes its home base in a Melbourne suburb.
With the fruit that comes in from Henty and the Grampians, winemaker Rory Lane attempts to tell the full story of a wine, from picking to the bottle. The wines are made with care and detail, and consistently recieve rave reviews. This is a story you want to know.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
