- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The guys at Pawn Wine Co. sure know how to make a slurpable red. This unusual blend comes out all guns blazing, Antonio Banderas-style. El Desperado, it is. A wine hell bent on being demolished immediately. These three varieties, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Shiraz get along so well, like a band of Banditos out for a night on the town... This could be seen as a pseudo-Joven inspired wine, and as James Halliday notes "It nails the style, and achieves all its aims and then some." - 92 points. A delicious, medium-bodied food-friendly red with plenty of attitude.
What it Tastes Like
"A winner in the drinkability stakes. This is how you make fresh, fruit-driven, well-weighted red wine – to be consumed now, if not sooner. Herbs and spices but mostly cherry-cola, raspberry and anise. The fell, the flow, the finish; it’s all good." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
92 points. "Just so lively. You'd pretty much call this a joven style; all fruit, low or no oak, released young and with sheer drinkability as its raison d'etre. It nails the style, and achieves all its aims and then some. Drink young." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion) 91 points "Made with grapes grown at Macclesfield in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. A winner in the drinkability stakes.
2015 El Desperado Sangiovese Tempranillo Shiraz This red blend This wine was made from grapes sourced from our Macclesfield vineyard. A blend of 3 varieties, we have taken the finest characteristics of each, to craft a medium bodied wine that is a mouth filling textural flavour bomb, which will accompany any food at any occasion. The Sangiovese brings sexy aromatics of cherry cola and raspberry, with fine tannins on the palate. Tempranillo adds a perfumed lift and spicy richness with the Shiraz delivering deep colour, berry fruits, pepper and velvety tannins. Variety trivia – We still believe that this is the only Sangiovese Tempranillo Shiraz style wine in the world – so far….. Chess Trivia - In chess, El Desperado is a doomed pawn that seems determined to give itself up to bring about a stalemate when captured, a pawn that is as good as dead and so sets out to do as much damage as possible. Goes best with – Pizza on a Friday night, pasta with fresh tomato and chilli, Lamb shanks with lots of sauce and crusty bread Harvest Date – March 6 the 2015, 4am Tempranillo, March 26, 2015, 4am Sangiovese April 2nd 2015, 2pm Shiraz Vineyard Location – Macclesfield, Adelaide Hills, South Australia, -35.186149, 138.815208 Harvest Weight – 8 tonnes/hectare Clonal Material – D8V12 Tempranillo, Piccolo Sangiovese, BVRC12 & 1654 Shiraz Alcohol – 14.5% pH – 3.17 T.A. – 6.03
