- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you're a fan of your cool climate Shiraz then this is a wine you really should have a look at. Made by the lovely people at The Lane - the Block 5 comes from a close planted block within their stunning Adelaide Hills vineyard and is designed as the more versatile 'everyday-drinking' version of their Shiraz. Mike Bennie called it a, "Bit of a no-brainer here if you like medium weight, savoury-ish, red fruited, lightly spicy, cool climate shiraz." in his 92 point review. This is an elegant, energetic and spicy Shiraz that drinks beautifully either now or over the next few years.
What it Tastes Like
"Has that svelte, cool, fine feel – red fruits, light peppery spice, lick of fennel/mint cool herbs, succulence in tannin, good length to taste. Red fruits to sniff on, pretty as can be, more dusting of pepper and a faint herbal note too. It’s close to silky in texture as it slides around the palate. It’s easy to like, has some finesse. Nice work. Nice drinking." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
93 points. "A luminous purple Block 5, infused with crunchy black plum and blueberry fruit, laced with white pepper and structured with finely textural tannins. It unites depth with elegance, and achieves dignified line and length rarely bottled at this price." - Tyson Stelzer (Tyson Stelzer's Australian and New Zealand Wines of the Year 2017) 92 points. "Has that svelte, cool, fine feel – red fruits, light peppery spice, lick of fennel/mint cool herbs, succulence in tannin, good length to taste. About the Producer
The Lane are forging a reputation as one of the Adelaide Hills’ premier producers, and are all about quality and authenticity with every single berry grown on site at their own vineyard. Their philosophy is to craft premium single vineyard wines that combine the finesse of Europe, the flavour of Australia and the unique characteristics of their vineyard.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
