- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Lane Vineyards is one of the most iconic wineries in the Adelaide Hills. They aim to craft premium single vineyard wines that combine the finesse of Europe, the flavour of Australia and the unique characteristics of their vineyard. The Block 14 Basket Press Shiraz is one of their most celebrated wines. The block sits atop a 450m rise high into the Hills. The traditional basket press technique helps to delicately extract all the flavour and character of the fruit with a gentle touch. It’s a very sexy Shiraz, truth be told. The most recent reincarnation, the 2015 vintage, is a classic vintage of this wine. It offers supreme, premium-end drinking, a long term cellaring prospect and affordability, all in one bottle. If you love the cooler climate Shiraz movement in Aus, this is a benchmark wine you need to try.
What it Tastes Like
Refinement and finesse on show. Slender, elegant, spiced and mineral-driven to the core. The tannins are fine and tightly knit. Such a sleek wine. A very good vintage, here. Blackberry and plum, but a lofty hint of violets, anise and white pepper grounds in the mix too. A burst of bright red berries and a spicy finish. Good stuff.
95 points "Great Colour: deep purple/red. A rich, meaty spicy scented wine with velvet soft texture. It has a superb combination of spice and richer fruit characters. Lively acidity refreshes the finish. Good balance. Fine wine." - Huon Hooke (huonhooke.com) 94 points. "Pepper, game, blueberries and black plums define a savoury and complex shiraz that captures the cool climate elegance of its high vineyard with depth and character. A long and full finish is accurately directed by firm, fine tannins." - Tyson Stelzer (Tyson Stelzer's Australian and New Zealand Wines of the Year 2017) 91 points "Smooth, blue and black cherry fruit, sweet spice and vanilla oak. Medium bodied, supple and spicy, sits a bit flat on the palate, but delivers a sophisticated mouthful of Shiraz with a savoury coffee-laced aftertaste of satisfying length." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Fruit from our highest, most exposed site on the vineyard. These vines are working incredibly hard throughout the growing season, their roots reaching deep into the ancient soils searching for scarce water resources through the limestone pores. Basket pressed and matured in fine grained French oak.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml

About the Producer
The Lane are forging a reputation as one of the Adelaide Hills’ premier producers, and are all about quality and authenticity with every single berry grown on site at their own vineyard. Their philosophy is to craft premium single vineyard wines that combine the finesse of Europe, the flavour of Australia and the unique characteristics of their vineyard.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
