The TarraWarra Estate Pinot Noir has always provided phenomenal value, and this release from arguably the Yarra Valley’s vintage of the decade is right up there with the best value Pinots in the country.
Talented Winemaker Clare Halloran compiles this wine from various blocks across the idyllic TarraWarra Estate, with the near-perfect vintage conditions resulting in a wine of lifted perfume and impressive flavour intensity despite its light and bright frame.
Unbeatable value Pinot Noir and another example of why James Halliday labeled TarraWarra Estate “one of the top-tier wineries in the Yarra Valley.”
What It Tastes Like
“All the 2015 wines are highly perfumed, and this is no exception. It displays lifted raspberry aromas, with a hint of earthiness and subtle oak. The flavours combine bright fruit with fine tannins, the elegance and finesse reflecting the excellent season.” - Clare Halloran (Tarrawarra Winemaker)
2014 vintage: 93 points. “It just goes to show that sheer drinkability and waftier notions of complexity don’t have to be mutually exclusive of one another. This has series notes of wood smoke, mineral, leaf matter and baked pastry and yet its raspberried, cherried, sweet-sour juiciness keeps the mood light. You can’t go wrong.”
- James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
2014 vintage: 93 points. “Raspberry, leaf litter, gentle scent of just baked cinnamon buns. Light to medium bodied, has a sense of ‘mineral’, with very tight knit fine tannin, clean acidity and a lightly earthy, but pretty red fruited finish of excellent length. This is a goer.”
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
Made with the same approach as the Reserve wine, this wine is produced from a different selection of fruit parcels and barrel combinations.

The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
