What It Tastes Like
“Black fruit, liquorice, earth, grilled meat with pepper, dried roses, vanilla and exotic spices. Full bodied, rich and ripe, but savoury and controlled, thick with sooty and pleasantly raw-edged tannin, dense brooding flavour, a pulse of fresh acidity, then tannin and tar ‘n spice rolling into the long finish, and a surprising lingering mouth-perfume of roses and plums. Lots of layers here, and a more ‘natural’ feel than many Barossa Shiraz. It’s pretty bloody good.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

2015 The Standish - Parbs Road, Greenock Almost the perfect vintage for this organically farmed vineyard, with its easterly aspect protecting it from the harsh western afternoon sun and the gentle sloped gravels draining away any untimely excess rainfall. Bedded deep on their own roots in fragmented ironstone and schist layered over dark red clay, this Shiraz clone is in its element. Gobsmacking! 4,530 bottles made
Bottle Size: 750ml

About the Producer
Standish Wine Company
Dan Standish is one of the most outstanding young Barossa producers in the game today.
His premium offerings rank amongst the rarest and most hotly sort after Barossa wines for collectors in the know. After learning his trade at Torbreck, his exploits under his own label have rightfully generated sensational press. Stylish, seductive and devastating, the Standish wines are Barossa wines with unmistakable X-Factor.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
