- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Sons of Eden philosophy is very much to focus on what the Barossa does best, and this Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre blend is the a brilliant example of what the label is all about. Not only that, it’s hands down one of the best value GSM’s in the country!
It’s named after the Kennedy family who owned the 50+ year old, low yielding old vine Grenache vineyard that makes up the majority of this wine. The Shiraz and Mourvedre fruit has similar old vine pedigree giving the wine incredible concentration, with the restrained use of older French oak really allowing the gorgeous fruit to do the talking.
The 2015 seems even more perfumed and elegant than in previous years, but still with a core of rich fruit and silky tannins. An absolute steal.
What It Tastes Like
Classic Barossa GSM with maybe a little more pep i its step than the 2014. Raspberry coolie, roasted beetroot and pepper. It’s round and cuddly, with silky sweet fruit and soft milk chocolate tannin. Great vibes here. Glugable stylings in a well-polished package.
95 points. “A 40/34/26% blend, fermented and matured separately, the grenache and mourvedre macerated for 10-20 days on skins after (warm) fermentation, matured in used French oak for 16 months before blending. Avoids confection/sweet fruit flavours, and does so with panache, ringing red, purple and black fruits into the very complex medium to full-bodied palate, cherry/plum and blackberry flavours welded together with a savoury, spicy subtext.”
- James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)
93 points “Cherry, floral perfume, spice and liquorice. Medium bodied, soft and silky, plump fruit with a savoury olive tapanade thing at its core, clean acidity, and fine powdery tannin on a supple creamy berry finish. Fine style. Not a hair out of place.”
- Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
The KENNEDY is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.

About the Producer
Sons of Eden
Sons of Eden is another of the new breed of Barossa labels turning the region on its head, and a partnership between a winemaker (Corey Ryan) and viticulturist (Simon Cowham) who both “learnt and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley”. James Halliday has awarded them his 5 red star rating.
The Barossa has a big reputation. Big in every sense of the word. Known for producing blockbusting examples of impenetrable old vine Shiraz and Grenache envied by much of the world, it is a region that should be celebrated as the region that first put Australian wine on the map. Now, with a new generation of winemakers reinventing the region, there’s more than just power in the Barossa’s bag of tricks. With a move toward picking earlier and pulling back on oak maturation, there’s a fresher, more subtle side to Barossa wine which offers plenty to the modern Australian wine lover.
