Beechworth Shiraz, when done well, can be a beautiful thing.
Simon Killeen’s aim here is to make a wine that speaks of the region. He was lucky enough to have a great vintage in Beechworth for this wine’s first release.
This is right in the ‘Goldilocks Zone’. Not too ripe. Not too lean. Not weighed down with cumbersome oak. It’s just right. One of those wines where everything just came together. It’s down-right irresistable if you’re a fan of Shiraz from this part of the country.

What It Tastes Like
This is a slippery and stylish Shiraz - opulent, dark, riddled with blueberries and spice. There’s drive here, a comfy cruise at high velocity. Glistening fruit trimmed with sweet, seductive oak. Tannins are nicely married to the fruit. It’s glossy. It’s pitched beautifully. Great NE Vic Shiraz. Fantastic value.

Beechworth is a small wine producing region with a big reputation. The distinctive terroir in this part of the country produces some of our most iconic wines. If you want serious Chardonnay or Rhone-inspired Shiraz/Syrah, you want to get to know Beechworth. Some of the most powerful cool climate wines in the country hail from here, and some of our future stars are making it their home. The future looks very bright for this champion Victorian region.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
