- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Simon Killeen's mission is to bring the diverse range of wines from the North-East of Victoria to the rest of the country. Good sites run by good growers made with skill - spread the word. It's wines like this that are getting his message out there. This Tempranillo from the Alpine Valleys is sensational. Fruit grown by Mark Walpool, hand picked and vinified in Beechworth, this is a modern, vivacious version of this classic Spanish variety. The oak plays a minor role, the sublime, juicy fruit are the wine's heart and soul. It's quite simply a gorgeous thing to drink.
What it Tastes Like
Fresh picked mulberries, plums, exotic spices and a raspberry coolie lift. The spices of fruit and oak roll through the mouth at a cracking pace. Sweet/sour/savoury all work in tandem for a perfectly balanced and incredibly moreish rendition of this wonderful variety. Top notch stuff.
Grown in the Alpine Valleys.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml

About the Producer
Simão & Co.
Simon Killeen is a seventh generation winemaker on a mission.
His mission is simple; tell the world how awesome the North East of Victoria is. The wine. The people. The landscape. All of it.
Simão (Portuguese for Simon) & Co. is his vessel for telling the story of the region. In what is only a matter of months since the first release of a Simão & Co. wine, he has taken the wine trade by storm.
The Alpine Valley is one of the ‘must watch’ emerging regions of Australian wine. Not bound by the traditions of some of the more ‘established’ regions, the Alpine Valley is experimenting with ‘alternative’ varieties from all over the world and kicking some huge goals. The productions are small, the quality is high and this cool climate region is on a mission to stamp its authority on Australian wine. And they are doing one hell of a job.
Tempranillo is a hot-blooded Spanish variety that has found a happy home in many Australian wine regions. Typically, Tempranillo will be medium bodied, showing silky darker fruits and tannins riddled with exotic spices. The wines are more-ish and incredibly well suited to alfresco Australian dining. Unsurprisingly, Tempranillo is one of the country’s most popular emerging varieties and is set to have a big future on Australian shores.
