Interesting things can happen on the blending bench. If inspiration strikes, some weird and wonderful things can be created.
The Minnow is a blend from the Shadowfax estate vineyard in Weribee. It is comprised of Grenache, Cinsault, Mataro, Roussanne and Mondeuse Noir - a strange combination, perhaps, but one that just works.
This is a finely boned wine, about brightness and freshness, which combines drinking appeal with interest.
It’s no run-of-the-mill red, nor is it too ‘out there’. It’s just a light-medium bodied red with a point of difference.
What It Tastes Like
Red fruits and game, a little reductive smokiness to the nose. The wine feels neatly tucked in, driven more by acid then tannin or fruit weight. Feels like it would come into its own when matched with food. Bright, crunchy with powdery sheets of fine tannin and a lick of spice on the finish. Cool wine.
We planted the first vines at our Werribee Vineyard in 1998. The vines are trained on a single wire and are shoot thinned by hand each spring to maintain low, simple yields.

About the Producer
Matt Harrop is the man directing the show at Shadowfax wines in Werribee, VIC. Matt combines excellent estate grown fruit from their Werribee and Macedon Ranges vineyards with some fruit from good growers in regions such as the Barossa Valley and Geelong to create an eclectic array of high-class wines. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay is their main focus, but the quality from the rarely seen Mondeuse to Barossa Shiraz is uniformly excellent.
This Victorian region rocks some very serious wines. Pinot Noir from this area, depending on who you talk too, is arguably the best in the country. Phenomenal output for the size of it. The wines from this area are idiosyncratic and have an earthy, sensual quality. Burgundian varieties, Syrah, hell, even Pinot Gris does exceptionally well here. To be honest, it’s very hard to go wrong when buying from Geelong.
