Here's a blend you don't see every day. This is a meeting of two Italian red varieties: Sagrantino and Nebbiolo. Both notoriously structural and muscular varieties, the gentle winemaking of Paul Starr and Tammy Braybrook finds some softness amongst the flurry of tannin that comes from both of these grapes. As Paul noted, the Nebbiolo 'lightens and brights' the moody, dark fruit of the Sagrantino making this a curious red which can handle plenty of protein at the dinner table. Mike Bennie summed it up well in his 92 point review with this simple line, "It’s bloody delicious, mates."

What it Tastes Like

"It’s bloody delicious, mates. It’s all bright, juicy fruit with a big couple of rips on the spice grinder over the top. Bold, ripe fruited scents of macerated cherries, stewed plums, blueberry pie, clove/pepper and earth. The palate is long, slurpy and dusty-spicy with a good couple of chews of tannin that finish the wine in a good pucker. It’s unreal drinking, if not addictive in its way. Utterly yum, but with TOC (touch of class). Hard to see why one wouldn’t get some of this on rotation for BBQs/mid weeks/casual drinking at the price." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
