- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Ross Hill Pinnacle Series Chardonnay is made from the best fruit on Ross Hill's twenty-year-old vineyard in Orange. This is an excellent regional example of Chardonnay's potential in Orange. It's a long and elegant rendition of the variety which strikes a lovely balance between flavour and finesse. Campbell Mattinson rated the 2015 vintage 94 points in the Australian Wine Companion, remarking that, "The flavours strike bold and pure." This wine makes a compelling case for Chardonnay's future in the region.
What it Tastes Like
"The flavours strike bold and pure. Grapefruit, white peach and quartz-like mineral characters give this wine both edge and oomph, and the finish doesn't let the side down either. Ticks all the way along the Ross Hill range at present." - Campbell Mattinson (Australian Wine Companion)

Made from our best Chardonnay fruit sourced from our 20 year-old Griffin Rd vineyard, the “Pinnacle” Chardonnay captures our regard for this noble variety. Bright yellow in hue – as with all of our whites, wild-yeast fermentation gives stability and uniform colour from centre to rim. The nose shows the beautiful caramel of barrel-fermentation, a trait shared with the great Chardonnays of Burgundy. Elevated, cool-climate fruit slows across the palate – it’s elegant and powerful at the same time. The recipe is clear, and all the ingredients are on the kitchen bench – watch this blossom and grow. A Chardonnay for lovers of Chardonnay.

About the Producer
Ross Hill wines is one of the jewels in the crown for Orange. Winemakers Phil and Rochelle Kerney were nominated last year as a finalist for the prestigious Gourmet Wine Traveller Winemaker of the year. They narrowly missed out on the top gong, but the quality of their estate grown cool climate wines are second to none in the area. Their methodology is “based on old-world techniques executed with modern quality control and precision”, and their wines are well worth seeking out.
The wine scene in Orange is alive and kicking. With each vintage that passes the bar of quality is raised again and again. Pinot Noir is a potential champion for the region but for now Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet are the flag bearers. The cool climate and the high altitude vineyards are producing wines of finesse and class and there is some ripping value to be had in this region.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
