This is the variety arguably closest to the heart of winemaker Mark Ravenscroft. After starting his own vineyard/winery in the Granite Belt of Queensland, he decided it would be the perfect place to plant the variety of his South African homeland, Pinotage. Pinotage is a hybrid of Pinot Noir and Cinsault, and is rarely seen outside of Africa. It's certainly a rare bird of Australian wine and this is a mighty fine example. Mike Bennie rated this 92 points and noted it was "Medium weight, savoury, ring the bell, this is unreal drinking."

What it Tastes Like

"Curious perfume with cola, cherry cola, sarsaparilla, anise, green herbs. Wild styles, so good, love this kick off. Flushes the palate with ultra bright cherry cola-like flavours, soft in texture but has a cinch of handy, chalky tannins to lend structure. Medium weight, savoury, ring the bell, this is unreal drinking." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
