When a superb vintage like 2015 in the Yarra Valley comes along, winemaker Dave Bicknell doesn’t miss. His Single Vineyard Series Willowlake Pinot Noir is a great example of Upper Yarra Pinot in full flight.
It’s imbued with sublime fruit flavours, the nuances of this great site being articulated with sensitive, traditional winemaking from Bicknell.
Campbell Mattinson labelled it a, “Definite buy.” in his glowing 94 point review and James Halliday awarded it 96 points and a value for money star.
Vintages like 2015 in the Yarra don’t come around all that often. Best to get some of this while you can.
What It Tastes Like
“Super pinot noir. Great buying. Fine-boned and generally structural but with a good fancy of flesh. Smoked herbs, the sweeter side of cranberry, twigs and leaves. Cool. Lengthy. A bit of intrigue. Liquid class. Definite buy.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
96 points “Whole berry wild fermentation in open tank for 2 weeks, followed by 10 months in French oak. A perfectly constructed pinot, its fragrant, red-fruited bouquet foreshadowing a palate of immaculate balance and length. It has a particular juicy mouthfeel born of the whole berry fermentation of perfectly ripened fruit, underlined by the aftertaste.”
- James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

About the Producer
Oakridge is one of the Yarra Valley’s most respected wineries. Under the direction of master winemaker Dave Bicknell, it has been a major player in defining the modern styles of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Yarra over the last decade. From the elite 864 range to the amazing value Over The Shoulder range, there’s quality at the core of everything Oakridge puts its hand to.
The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
