- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
There’s very little Mataro planted in the Bendigo region, but young, budding winemaker Brendan Lane has managed to hunt some down.
His is a slightly prettier version of Mataro than many from warmer climes. It emphasises Mataro’s aromatic qualities, looking for the unique characters of Mataro grown in this region to show through.
He made just three barrels from 2015, with a total bottling of less than 100 dozen. Brendan believes that more often than not, less is more in winemaking. That philosophy has definitely paid dividends here.
What It Tastes Like
Lifted perfume. High tones, blue and purple fruit with some earthy base notes. The flavours corkscrew through the mouth, flavour washes along on a bed of fine-grained tannin. It strikes a good balance between grunt and finesse. Interesting wine, here.
Axedale Vineyard - Bendigo, Victoria. Harvested 27 March 2015.
