- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This is the Moorilla Pinot Noir that's designed for early drinking, and boy does it go down easy. It comes from Moorilla's St. Matthias Vineyard in the Tamar Valley, with all the fruit being hand-picked and then pressed straight into mostly older French oak with a portion of whole bunches and whole berries. It is unashamedly a fruit-forward, 'new world' style of Pinot, but it is very well executed. Delicious drinking and a real bargain. Giddy up!
What it Tastes Like
"It feels silken and the fruit is attractively sweet-sour, with sweet spices adding to the appeal. It’s slender and slight but there’s good shape and feel. It’s designed for early drinking but you get the feeling it may well be a better wine given a little time." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)

This single vineyard Pinot noir is hand crafted from multiple batches of hand-picked grapes. A brilliant low yielding vintage saw flavours ripen and high levels of natural acidity retained. It’s designed to drink early but will reward short term cellaring.

About the Producer
Moorilla is definitely one of the more unique wineries in Tasmania. Their lengthy history stretches back to the 1950’s, but it is in the last couple decades since their partnership began with the iconic Mona Art Gallery where they have become a more prominent figure in the state. Talented winemaker Conor van der Reest is doing an excellent job in expressing the unique terroir of their two owned vineyards, with the range of wines providing colour and quality at every point. A star producer no doubt.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
