- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Chalmers family are largely responsible for the boom of Italian grape varieties in Australia, and their Montevecchio range is all about utilising their nursery of varieties to create approachable, no-fuss blends for easy enjoyment.
This ‘Bianco’ is a co-fermented field blend of Vermentino, Fiano and a small percentage of Moscato Giallo - all from the Chalmers Heathcote vineyard. It’s fresh and fruit-driven but with ample savoury nuances, with these three Italian grapes working very nicely in unison.
90 points from Campbell Mattinson (“a delicious drink, interesting, textural, with lots of spark”), and outstanding value for money.
What It Tastes Like
“This is an easy wine to recommend. It feels and tastes good, and then finishes with a confident burst of flavour. Stonefruit, spice, chalk and wax. There’s a musky, floral, almost rosewater-like character here – which does nothing but add appeal. It’s a delicious drink, interesting, textural, with lots of spark.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
90 points. “Co-fermented field blend of Vermentino (82%), Fiano (16%) and Moscato Giallo (2%). As an aside, the Montevecchio website is interesting for the way it pitches to a specific market. Within its style/theme it’s pretty well done too.

Montevecchio Bianco is a co-fermented field blend made from vermentino, fiano and a small percentage of moscato giallo.
Fresh and fruity yet savoury, this wine shows notes of ripe white peach, fresh cut red apple and minerals. It is crisp yet giving on the palate with a clean dry finish.

About the Producer
No family in Australia has done more for the continued emergence of alternative grape varieties than the Chalmers. Since the mid-1980’s Bruce and Jenni Chalmers have been responsible for importing up to 70 alternative varieties into Australia, culminating in them establishing the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in 1999. They are true visionaries of the Australian wine scene and we are eternally grateful for their forward thinking and courage to bravely plant what no one had planted before them. They brought with them the first ripples of the tsunami of Italian varieties hitting the Australian market.
Heathcote’s reputation is for big Shiraz. And they do it so well. But the times they are a changin’ with Italian varieties such as Fiano, Sangiovese, Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino all finding themselves well at home in the ancient Cambrian soils.
