The Pretty Young Thing is Mac’s take on bright, early drinking Syrah from the Yarra Valley.
Part of the EB Range (Experimental Batch), this fruit was delicate and perfumed from day one and was positively screaming at Mac to be made into a Nouveau style of Syrah.
Mike Bennie loved it saying, “It’s delicious. Does the job it says it will.” in his 92 point review and if you are in the market for a lighter, brighter red to quench your thirst - the Pretty Young Thing is exactly what you’re looking for.
What It Tastes Like
“Smoky, toasty notes, spice, savouriness. It’s all happening here. So frisky, juicy in the palate. Ultra crispy, crunchy in the palate. Just ripe red fruits. Berries with firm skin. Barely there herbs. Light on, but so super drinkable. Finishes with squeaky acidity. It’s delicious. Does the job it says it will.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
If you love premium and artisanal Australian wine, Mac Forbes is a name you need to know. He’s not only one of the country’s most talented young winemakers, but he’s an influential spokesman for the concept of ‘terroir’, believing that wine should represent a time and a place.
Mac specialises in single vineyard Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley. His wines are delicate and finely etched, characterised by subtlety and grace. His Chardonnays are loved by those who look for fruit purity rather than winemaking artifice in the variety, his array of off-dry Rieslings from the Strathboogie Ranges are some of the country’s most unique. And his ever-expanding range of experimental wines are a treasure-trove for the curious drinker.
The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
