This is Pinot Noir from the Latta family vineyard in Ballarat alongside some sourced from surrounding vineyards. This wine is part of Owen Latta's mission with the Latta vino label, to push boundaries and produce wines as naturally as possible. This is been wild fermented, bottled without filtration and has seen no additions zero sulphur. It's Pinot from his region stripped bare with an extended time on skins. It's a tantalising interpretation of the variety. It plays Pinots more rustic notes and takes the variety into fascinating territory. Mike Bennie was sucked in, describing it as, "Delicious as is. Pinot noir of elegance, ok no, but hey, this has some verve and max drinkability." If you like what the new generation of natural wine producers are doing, Owen's is a label you should get familiar with, and this Pinot makes for the perfect window into his unique style.

What it Tastes Like

"Loads of spice and herbs and pickled red fruits in the bouquet. Inviting, heady aromatics, twists of sarsaparilla and cola amongst that amaro-like fragrance. The palate is amaro-like too, edged with smudges of chalky tannin, finishes mouthwatering and bitter-sweet in the best possible way. The herbs and spice elements play a big role in this wine, indeed, if someone said ‘hey try this vermouth or amaro’ I’d be almost convinced…that’s intrigue for you. Delicious as is.
