We love the way Andrew Hoadley thinks about wine.
The guy’s creativity is so refreshing, he is almost pathologically incapable of making a ‘conventional’ wine, and for that, we salute him.
His newest creation is the 2015 Nova Syrova. A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir and Monastrell, this wine begs to be drunk as soon as it arrives.
It’s all about freshness and flavour. Interest and immediate impact.

What It Tastes Like
Bright, poppy, herbal and pippy. A little bit of carbonic maceration, bit of whole bunch - both moves a stroke of genius. It’s light - medium weight, easily smashable, and super refreshing!
93 points. “So it’s a blend of ciras (syrah), cannonau (grenache), picotendro (nebbiolo, remember this from Aosta Valley), rulandske modre (pinot noir, knew that one from a recent trip to Slovakia) and monastrell. Phew. To spend a while in that mind of Andrew Hoadley, winemaker and nurturer of drinks at La Violetta. Built for rapid consumption, it feels.
It’s a wicked drink. Spice, slippery texture, just medium bodied, just ripe red fruits and buckshots of amaro herbal sour-sweetness. It almost feels like a negroni, but grapey. It’s peppery and briary in scent, juicy in those little red berries and cherries, crisp in acidity and slides around the palate with joyous ease. In that, it feels simple, but hang around and admire the layering of fine scent, perks of each grape variety in texture, fruitiness and herbal-savouriness. Far out, hard to spit out on the tasting bench.”
