- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
A very special wine release here from Jamsheed main man Gary Mills. The 2015 Jamsheed ASRC Syrah is a lovely Yarra Valley Syrah made exclusively for a charitable cause.
All profits from this wine will be donated directly the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, an organisation that assists Asylum Seekers with a range of services; from legal aid to medical assistance, education, vocational support and much more. It’s an admirable organisation.
We at Different Drop are proud to be able to support Gary in this venture. And it’s a very tasty wine, to boot. Mike Bennie noted “This is $20 well spent. Indeed, punches above its weight… No brainer.” in his assessment of it.
Gary only produced a small amount and it won’t be available for long. A heartfelt thank you to all who purchase this, your donations are going to a great cause.
There really is no better way to spend $20 on a bottle of wine.
What It Tastes Like
“Indeed, punches above its weight for rosy, cheery, cherry fruit scents and flavours, touch of that ‘Jamsheed’ green herb and peppery spice, crisp, crunchy texture. Light yet flavoursome, gently sweet-sour, vibrant as all get out, will take a chill as it will warm your cockles. Good palate smudge of tannins and fresh acidity to close. Spot on for ease of drinking. No brainer.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
Not Rated “This is one of those reviews that isn’t really a review, more a public service announcement and worthy therefore. Gary Mills and friends have chosen positivity and support as a motif, producing a wine where proceeds are donated to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Melbourne. Close to home for me with a mother who was once in a similar position as those who get the benefit of the ASRC. Anyways, sales of this wine are through Black Hearts & Sparrows mostly, for now. This is $20 well spent.

All proceeds from the sale of this wine go to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in Melbourne, Victoria. We believe that it is the basic human right to seek asylum and protection regardless of their nationality, religion or skin colour.
The 2015 ASRC Syrah is a blend of 2 Yarra Valley Syrah vineyards, fermented with a high proportion of whole bunches and aged in a combination of tank and older French oak. It is filtered unfined and unfiltered and is presented as a ‘soif’ style easy drinking light red wine.
Your help and support is truly appreciated - we thank you

About the Producer
Gary Mills is a rockstar of Victorian wine. His Jamsheed wines are amongst the most exciting in the country: thrilling, authentic wines packed with personality. Campbell Mattinson labelled him “a leading producer”, Jamie Good called him “the new face of Australian wine” and Matthew Jukes went as far as to call the wine of Jamsheed “a revelation”. With a specific focus on the regional differences in Victorian Syrah for his Jamsheed range, Gary has been one of the loudest advocates for the inclusion of whole bunch ferments and was ahead of the curve in creating minimal intervention wines that naturally convey the characteristics of their respective vineyards. Wild, electric and a little left of centre, Jamsheed is one of the Victoria’s most compelling producers.
The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
