- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Infidels is Primitivo/Zinfindel from the immaculate Inkwell vineyard in McLaren Vale. Over the last few vintages, it has garnered a reputation for being one of the country's most drinkable/loveable Primitivos. It sells out the fastest of all the Inkwell wines each year and rightfully so. The 2015 release looks in career best form. The oak is set firmly to the background, the perky red fruits and spice of this variety on display for all to see. The fruit weight, tannin and acidity playing perfectly with each other. Dudley and Irina have simply nailed it this year. This is, without a doubt, one of the finest releases of the Infidels to date. A modern McLaren Vale red that everyone is likely to fall in love with.
What it Tastes Like
It sets off at a cracking pace. Red ribbon licorice, cinnamon and floral perfume. Crushed raspberries and red mulberried fruit. But it's the style through the mouth which is so impressive. It's swish. Clean, glassy acidity on a pure bed of fresh red fruits. The exotic spices so deeply embedded in the fine filigree tannins. Insanely drinkable. Gorgeous Summer red. Best Infidels to date, for mine.
93 points. "Soft, slurpable, super pleasing thing this is. Strong scents of currants, Chinese five spice, sour plums. The palate is more of the Chinese sour plum vibe with anise, sarsaparilla and bay leaf. It’s quite powerful but all under control, hewn with sinewy tannins, dragged long on fresh acidity. There’s impact here of the variety but all bundled up and kept firm and true. It’s a very good example." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Husband and wife duo Dudley Brown and Irina Santiago-Brown of Inkwell wines in McLaren Vale, are true advocates of sustainable farming practices and are self confessedly “fanatical about (their) vines and wines.”
The South Australian region of McLaren Vale is famous for its powerful red wines. Shiraz and Grenache have thrived for years in the Vale’s sandy soils. Nowadays, the region’s varietal diversity has majorly increased, the coastal location and warm climate proving perfect for a new wave of varieties from Italy, Spain and Portugal. The success of varieties such as Nero d’Avola, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, and Fiano has transformed McLaren Vale into one of the country’s most vibrant wine scenes. It’s where tradition meets innovation and it is producing some of the Australia’s finest wines.
