- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Syberia is the nickname the D'Anna family has given to the highest and steepest block of Chardonnay on the Hoddles Creek Estate vineyard. The wine it produces each year is markedly different to the rest of the Hoddles Creek Chardonnays. Syberia is leaner, more focused and perhaps a more precise 'Chablis-eque' style of wine. It is compact yet powerful, hence Franco allowing it extra time in bottle prior to release. The 2015 is a sensational vintage of this wine. A wine which will take the next decade easily in stride. As Gary Walsh said, unequivocally, in his 96 point review, "This is flat out sensational chardonnay."
What it Tastes Like
"This is flat out sensational chardonnay. So cool. So pure. So seamless. It’s gentle and subdued, saline and nutty, with a milky texture, white peach, white flowers and a wisp of struck match, perhaps some cut fennel perfume too. Fresh and precise on an energetic finish of superb length. All just so. Straight to the pool room." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Located on our steepest, highest block at Hoddles Creek. Syberia is always quite different to the standard Hoddles Creek Chardonnay. The row orientation is East-West so it doesn't see a lot of direct sunlight on bunches. The wine is whole bunch pressed straight to cask, no fining and zero filtration. From the day the vines were planted, Syberia has always been a special block. We choose only the best barrels for to make this cuvee.

About the Producer
Hoddles Creek lay a serious claim to being one of the best value producers in Australia. Led by the extremely hardworking winemaking guru Franco D’Anna, Hoddles craft wonderful Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in particular that seriously overdeliver at all price-points.
The wines are all crafted from fruit grown on their family owned vineyard in the Upper Yarra Valley. A must try for Yarra Valley fans and bargain hunters alike!
The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
