This interesting red blend is unique to the Freeman estate in the Australian wine landscape. These two varieties, Corvina and Rondinella, are native to Italy and make up the famous Amarone style of wine. The Corona is a slightly different interpretation of the blend, using only freshly picked grapes rather than the traditional dried fruit element that goes into Amarone and the Freeman Secco. Here, Dr. Brian Freeman is looking "to create a mellow yet savoury ‘drink now’ style." and he is right on the money with the 2015 release. It has interest, intrigue and drinkability all at $20 a bottle. A great wine for alternative mid-week drinking.

What it Tastes Like

Dried herbs and red plums with a hint of milk chocolate on the nose. Something almost gamey but not quite. Whiff of goji berry is really intriguing. In the mouth it's softly fruited with a milk chocolate centre framed by red berries and spice. Cool drinking if you are sick of the usual suspect varieties.
