If you were going to pick the ideal vintage to kick off a new wine venture, then 2015 in the Yarra Valley would have to rate pretty high on your wish list. All three releases from the duo at Featherston are excellent value and carry all the hallmarks of a producer to watch closely in the future. This is Pinot Noir from a single vineyard in Steels Creek. It shows excellent generosity of fruit for a young Pinot Noir and confirmed for Gary Walsh that this is indeed a "Great debut from this winery." Only 83 dozen made.
What it Tastes Like
"Great debut from this winery. The Chardonnay was excellent, as is this Pinot Noir... Red cherry and raspberry, cinnamon danish and dried roses, dusty spicy oak and earthy scents. Medium bodied, again dusty and spicy, but with juicy red berries and a juicy kind of cranberried acidity, grainy almost nebbiolo-like tannin plays on the finish. Great drinking." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

The Fetherston Vintners 2015 Pinot Noir is crafted from a single parcel of D5V12 and MV6 clone fruit, hand picked in late February 2015. The fruit was whole-bunch fermented and matured in a mixture of second-fill and older French oak barriques for 12 months. 2015 was an exceptional vintage with dry, mild days and cool nights during ripening producing wines of great purity and potential longevity.

About the Producer
Fetherstone has done all the little things right in their first release. They are crafting, approachable, high-quality wines with plenty of style and panache for extremely reasonable prices. They are a winery to keep a close eye on in the future.
The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
