This is sensational Chardonnay. Everything you could want in high quality, cool climate, modern Australian Chard. It's a winner. It's no surprise to see wines like this from Nick Spencer and Eden Road - he is one of the most masterful winemakers of the NSW High Country. This comes from the Maragle vineyard in Tumbarumba, and for us was the pick of the Eden Road Chardonnays when we tasted through the range. It's powerful, it's precise, it's complex. It presents an incredible array of flavours, all seamlessly held together by perfect, minerally acidity. It's delicious. The 2015 recieved 94 points from Gary Walsh, another great edition of this wine. Yet another seriously classy, modern Australian Chardonnay from Nick and the team.
What it Tastes Like
"Struck match, white peach and citrus, mint and honeysuckle, toasted hazelnuts and spice. Light in frame, yet well appointed, with almond and white peach, a chalky texture and some funky reduction, cool acidity, and some lemon rind on a good long finish. Delicious. Stylish. All that kind of stuff." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
96 points " What's quite breathtaking about Maragle is its abundance of flavour reined-in to a more linear frame. Not such an easy balance to strike, this done so with laser precision and seems effortless. Flinty with leesy notes, citrus and stone fruit, ginger spice, smoky and wood spices, superfine acidity and great length." - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion) 94 points. Maragle sits at an altitude of 405 meters above sea level, 30 kms south of the Courabyra vineyard making it one of the lowest altitude vineyards in Tumbraumba. The vineyard also sits at the top of a small valley resulting in sinking cold air and rising warm air. In the case of Maragle, its location and proximity to the Snowy mountains to the west means sinking cold air cools the vineyard rapidly in the evenings. This is important given this is one of the warmest vineyards in the region.

About the Producer
If you are looking at the ‘new guard’ of the Canberra wine scene, Eden Road is a name you need to know.
Winemaker Nick Spencer is right at the forefront of Canberra’s next generation of winemaking rockstars. Since he famously won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2009 with his first release of the Long Road Shiraz, the wines from Nick and his team have been highly sort after. And rightfully so, they are outstanding. These are premium quality wines from special sites across the cooler parts of NSW. Eden Road is one of the country’s most dynamic modern wine operations and definitely one to keep an eye on.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
