- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The team at Eden Road are making a point to highlight some of the lesser-known grape growing regions in NSW. Filling in some of the blanks on the NSW wine map. It’s a strategy that is working brilliantly for them.
This vineyard in Gundagai, for instance, is developing a track record and producing outstanding Cabernet and Shiraz.
In 2015, the fruit was picked at just the right time, maintaining that elusive balance of “power and elegance”. It is not overworked in the slightest, winemaker Nick Spencer resting assured that the fruit will do the talking.
This wine is a youngster and its best is still to come but if you are inclined to put a few away, you will be rewarded.
This is a must buy for any serious Cabernet fan. Rarely do you see wines of this quality at this price.
What It Tastes Like
“Meaty, pencilly, savoury, minerally, peppery. Black and red fruits and a little mint. Still a little doughy smelling as a young wine. Medium bodied, nutty flavours, dense, with a kind of bouncy feel, slight spicy edge to the acidity, pleasant silkiness and some grip of tannin on a long peppery finish. Needs some time. You’ve done too much, much too young.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
92+ points. “Hot on the heels of the wonderful 2014. Very early release for a Cabernet.

This wine is grown on a single vineyard located just outside Gundagai on the wave banks of the famous Murrumbidgee river. The vineyard experiences very warm days and massive diurnal swings at night with sub 10-degree evenings on occasion. The wine treads a fine line between power and elegance and has the structure to ensure this wine will cellar very well.

About the Producer
If you are looking at the ‘new guard’ of the Canberra wine scene, Eden Road is a name you need to know.
Winemaker Nick Spencer is right at the forefront of Canberra’s next generation of winemaking rockstars. Since he famously won the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2009 with his first release of the Long Road Shiraz, the wines from Nick and his team have been highly sort after. And rightfully so, they are outstanding. These are premium quality wines from special sites across the cooler parts of NSW. Eden Road is one of the country’s most dynamic modern wine operations and definitely one to keep an eye on.
Gundagai is one of the Dark Horses of NSW wine regions. Though it has flown under the radar for many years, some of the most elite producers in NSW are now going out of their way to source fruit from this region. The Cabernet is all class, the Syrah is stunning - if you haven’t yet, trying the wines of Gundagai should be on your to-do list.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
