- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Denton Shed wines are made as young, vibrant wines with a high drinkability factor which doesn't compromise complexity. Made by Luke Lambert, the 2015 Pinot Noir is the product of good winemaking and a great vintage. This saw a fairly high proportion of the wine fermented as whole berries giving the pop of bright fruit you get with carbonic maceration. It's purposely built in a 'nouveau' style and drinks as well now as it will in five years time. The more of the 2015 Yarra Valley vintage we try, the more we are convinced, it's living up to the hype. It's wines like this which are the proof.
What it Tastes Like
Pop the top and a torrent of strawberry, red cherry and floral tones cascade into the glass. It smells so pure and vital, pretty as a picture. There's crunch to the tannin and a slipperiness to the fruit which makes a great combination. A yummy, smashable Pinot Noir with a little extra level of detail than is typical of the 'nouveau' style.
View Hill is an isolated hill in the middle of the Yarra Valley on the north side of the Yarra River. It exists because it is a granite ‘plug’ from the late Devonian Age [370 million years ago], sitting above the surrounding softer sandstones and siltstones of the Valley. Made with a high percentage of carbonic maceration, 40% sees old oak and then it's straight to bottle, unfined and unfiltered. Bright, fresh and light on it's feet.

The Yarra Valley stands tall as one of the country’s finest cool-climate wine regions. Only a short jaunt from Melbourne, the Yarra has become a tourist hot-spot for its stunning scenery, high quality produce, and of course, as the home to some of the country’s most iconic wine producers. From the extraordinarily elegant Cabernets and Syrahs that populate the ‘Valley floor’, to the precise and complex versions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that hail from the higher climes of the Yarra, this region is diverse and in a state of change. As temperatures rise and phylloxera infiltrates each pocket of the Yarra Valley, the range of alternative varieties from continental Europe is sure to increase to create a more colourful picture of the region. The Yarra embodies so much of what is great about the modern Australian wine scene.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
