- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Single Block series of wines highlight the extraordinary differences between the different Pinot Noir blocks on the Clyde Park estate vineyard. Of the three 2015 Single Block Pinot Noir releases, the D Block is what you might consider the flashiest, or most flamboyant. It's a wine of exceptional power and grace - everything that great Pinot Noir should be. Campbell Mattinson saw fit to award it an outstanding 97 points, Gary Walsh gave it 95 - and with only 165 cases made, this will no doubt be the fastest of the 2015 Clyde Park Pinot Noirs to sell out.
What it Tastes Like
"Mint and fennel perfume, layers of spice, cherries, undergrowth and a little sweet creamy oak. Medium bodied, sinewy and fresh through the juiciness of fruit, punctuated by stalk and spice, powdery and chalky on a long finish. Impact + tastiness. What a good wine. Such personality." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)
97 points "Inbuilt complexity, powerful in its own way, and long with tannin and flavour. This undergrowthy, herb-flecked pinot is a wonder to behold; it begs the word mesmerising. Little more need be said." - Campbell Mattinson (Australian Wine Companion) 95 points. A steep south facing slope, where soils vary from dark brown volcanic clay-loams at the top, to virtually black clay-loams towards the bottom. These soils have a high percentage of montmorillonite clay, which is highly prized in the best Burgundian vineyards. It has excellent water retention capacity, but limits availability, in essence keeping vines both supplied, yet under regular and moderate water stress at the same time, which is essential for fruit and wine quality. Region - Moorabool Valley, Geelong Vineyard. 100% Clyde Park Vineyard. 100% Pinot Noir – F6V7 clone. Harvest March 2015. All French oak.
Closure: Screw Cap

About the Producer
Clyde Park’s gorgeous vineyard is one of the finest jewels in the crown of Geelong wine. Their specialities are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with individual bottlings from different blocks across the vineyard being their signature releases. Their wines are powerful, voluptuous and speak of one of Victoria’s greatest vineyard sites.
This Victorian region rocks some very serious wines. Pinot Noir from this area, depending on who you talk too, is arguably the best in the country. Phenomenal output for the size of it. The wines from this area are idiosyncratic and have an earthy, sensual quality. Burgundian varieties, Syrah, hell, even Pinot Gris does exceptionally well here. To be honest, it’s very hard to go wrong when buying from Geelong.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
