The 2015 Clyde Park Pinot Noir is the latest edition of this iconic estate grown wine.
The first vines to propagate Clyde Park were planted by Gary Farr, one of the winemaking pioneers of the region, in 1979. This wine combines the fruit yielded from the original plantings with fruit from younger vines growing on the estate.
Each year this wine serves as a snapshot of the season on this stunning vineyard. The 2015 is an excellent release: finely detailed and impeccably balanced. With 94 points from Gary Walsh and 93 points from Campbell Mattinson, this is a top release of this benchmark example of Geelong Pinot Noir.
What It Tastes Like
“Cherry, strawberry, sweet spices with a whiff of mint/aniseed and orange peel, little bit of earthiness rumbling below. Medium bodied, almost delicate, light tang and rasp of tannin, but pretty much flows along smoothly and sweetly with its red fruited siren song, then comes a gentle rocky tumble of tannin on the long finish. Cellar-worthy, but beautifully balanced and so easy to drink now. One of those wines that makes me waver between 93 and 94 points. Its charm gets it over the line.” - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Clyde Park’s gorgeous vineyard is one of the finest jewels in the crown of Geelong wine. Their specialities are Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, with individual bottlings from different blocks across the vineyard being their signature releases. Their wines are powerful, voluptuous and speak of one of Victoria’s greatest vineyard sites.
This Victorian region rocks some very serious wines. Pinot Noir from this area, depending on who you talk too, is arguably the best in the country. Phenomenal output for the size of it. The wines from this area are idiosyncratic and have an earthy, sensual quality. Burgundian varieties, Syrah, hell, even Pinot Gris does exceptionally well here. To be honest, it’s very hard to go wrong when buying from Geelong.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
