- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Clonakilla is one of the true icons of the Australian wine scene. Since its inception, it has been one of (if not THE) leading lights of the Australian cool climate wine insurgence.
Their Shiraz Viognier is famous. However, the O’Riada, as Campbell Mattinson once observed, “is where the smart money is being spent when buying Clonakilla reds.”
O’Riada is made from 100% Canberra fruit from the Clonakilla estate and carefully selected surrounding vineyards. The 2015 vintage is one of the most anticipated releases in the wine’s history. According to winemaker Tim Kirk “2015, our 40th vintage, was outstanding.”
With 97 points from James Halliday and 95 points from Campbell Mattinson, this is an exceptional release of the O’Riada and one that, even for this wine, punches well above its weight.
If you want Clonakilla in your cellar but aren’t regularly quaffing $95 per bottle, the O’Riada is what you need to be buying.
What It Tastes Like
“A strikingly fragrant and perfumed effort from Clonakilla, this wine captures you instantaneously. It is superbly constructed, aromatically fragrant, perfumed and darkly fruited; on the palate spice, superfine tannins and then the finish that just lingers and expands.” - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

95 points “It takes time to open up but once it has it’s a pearl. It’s full of black pepper and five spice character and, indeed, it’s smoky and reductive and a touch stinky. Be warned. It’s that style of wine. But it combines elegance and power, juicy fruit and a taut run of tannin, and in the end it sings long and harmonious. Did I mention nuts? And peppers? And herbs? It’s beautiful now, and it’s going to mature deliciously.”
- Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
“This is super youthful and also quite tightly wound. It has very attractive and exuberant style. Aromas of mixed red, blue and darker berry fruits, fine baking spices and chocolate, and an unmistakable fine white peppery edge - exudes a sense of ideal ripeness. The palate delivers a smooth, fluid and succulent impression, quite juicy and fleshy through the middle palate; hints of liquorice here amid dark plum and pepper-dusted redder berry flavors, with a twist of spice through the finish. Brilliant wine; one for mid-term cellaring. Best from 2020.”
- Nick Stock
2015, our 40th vintage, was outstanding. Rain in early summer provided plenty of subsoil moisture, setting the perfect stage for the brilliant warm and dry late summer and autumn that followed. The O’Riada is made from fruit picked from our estate vineyard and other excellent sites in Murrumbateman and Hall. It’s a quintessential Canberra Shiraz. Ripe red berries and plenty of spice.

About the Producer
Clonakilla is one of the true icons of the Australian wine scene.
Since its inception, it has been one of (if not THE) leading lights of the Australian cool climate wine insurgence. They boast one of the most collectable wines in the country with their Shiraz Viognier and are considered the benchmark for all things Canberra.
Quite simply, one of the true gems in the Australian Wine Industry crown.
Canberra. A mountain of potential. A sleeping giant of Australian wine. The ability of this region to produce world class wines in only a relatively short history is almost second to none in the whole country. We have some absolute geniuses to thank for developing this region. People have taken notice. Canberra wine is some serious gear. With the ability to produce everything from perfumed and tightly wound Syrah, to razor sharp Riesling and a bunch of emerging varieties in the ground excelling, Canberra will be one of the ‘must watch’ wine producing regions in Australia for many years to come.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
