- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The Chalmers family are pioneers of emerging varieties here in Australia. Nero d’Avola has been one of their true champions.
Their 2015 is a lighter, more finely boned version of the variety. The perfect example of how the Chalmers’ have continued to refine their Nero style since their first release in 2009.
It’s bright and bursting with berries and spice. Quintessential rendition of a ground-breaking Australian wine.
What It Tastes Like
“Vivid crimson colour; a frisky and very fragrant bouquet with raspberries leading the way; as they continue to do so on the light-bodied, fresh palate, tannins and oak are on a leave of absence.” - James Halliday (Australian Wine Companion)

About the Producer
No family in Australia has done more for the continued emergence of alternative grape varieties than the Chalmers. Since the mid-1980’s Bruce and Jenni Chalmers have been responsible for importing up to 70 alternative varieties into Australia, culminating in them establishing the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show in 1999. They are true visionaries of the Australian wine scene and we are eternally grateful for their forward thinking and courage to bravely plant what no one had planted before them. They brought with them the first ripples of the tsunami of Italian varieties hitting the Australian market.
Heathcote’s reputation is for big Shiraz. And they do it so well. But the times they are a changin’ with Italian varieties such as Fiano, Sangiovese, Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino all finding themselves well at home in the ancient Cambrian soils.
Australian Nero d’Avola is one of the easiest-drinking red wines you are likely to find. This playful Sicilian variety is typically light to medium bodied, filled with jubey dark fruits and soft, silky tannins. It’s all about juicy drinkability with Nero. Though some cross the boundary into the area of ‘fine wine’, the majority are built to deliver maximum enjoyment as an early drinking style. Perfect for sharing with good friends and good food. The fact that it perfectly suits the Australian climate is just another tick in its box. Nero d’Avola is a variety that will play a big part in the future of Australian wine.
