- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The 40-year-old Cabernet vines on the Marion's Vineyard in Tasmania occupy the warmest pocket of the vineyard. With a long and slow ripening time, this site producers small and intensely flavoured berries which make a Cabernet with power in its youth and more elegance and refinement for the patient. There are more and more producers pursuing Cabernet and Shiraz in Tasmania, due to a warming climate and a better understanding of terroir. The vines Marion's were ahead of their time and are now paying dividends for Cynthea Semmens and Dave Feldheim. All things considered, this is remarkable value for lovers of more European-style Cabernet.
What it Tastes Like
tobbaco, smoke, cedar, red currant, fine, lovely fine coco tannins. Fantastic concentration. Supple but easy to drink.
A rarity in a cool climate like Tassie, but when Cabernet finds a warm pocket coupled with some vine age you get delicious European inspired wines. Our Cabernet has great depth of flavour from slow growing seasons and small concentrated berries. Fruit is picked ripe so tannin structure is fine and tight. If you like your wines big, then this is your style at a young age, however, elegance awaits in time.

About the Producer
David Feldheim and Cynthea Semmens tend the vines on their Tamar Valley property. It was planted by Cynthea’s father to a range of interesting varieties. Syrah and Cabernet do exceedingly well on their property, as does the region heros of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Their eye-catching packaging paying tribute to the Apple growers of yesteryear that earnt Tasmania the nick-name ‘Apple Isle’.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the truly Nobel grapes. An inherently structural variety, Cabernet when handled gently can produce majestic wines of grace and beauty that mature gloriously with time in the bottle. Australian Cabernet runs the full gamut of style: from lighter, more finely boned versions from regions such as the Yarra Valley, through the exquisitely complex and firm wines of Margaret River to the intensely powerful wines from the Coonawarra, there is much to explore in the world of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon.
