- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
If you are curious of the Bass Phillip Pinot Noir style, there's no better place to dip your toe in the pond than with the Old Cellar Pinot Noir. This is a compilation of fruit from the Bass Phillip vineyards that was set to an earlier drinking mode. You get the muscle and classic mulchy, undergrowthy funk that this estate is known for, but in a much more approachable shell (and price!). The perfect way to get to know this iconic producer and begin a life-long love affair.
What it Tastes Like
"It’s a mulchy, spicy, smoky thing, with sour cherry and just-ripe strawberry flavours. Light bodied, fine-grained tannin, a little sweet and sour in profile, with bright acidity and a pretty good sappy finish. Good wine to enjoy over the shorter term." - Gary Walsh (The Wine Front)

Fresh, early drinking pinot noir with all the standard Bass Phillip attributes: fruit, earth and spices and soft tannin length, but with a difference: this is a definite Drink-Now style at a very attractive price. Will improve over the next two to three years. CURRENT VINTAGE: 2015 WINEMAKER’S NOTES: The “Old Cellar range of wines is Bass Phillip’s entry level for both chardonnay & pinot noir. Although they come from our estate vineyards, these wines are generally blended from barrels that have some clearly different characters to the established “Estate” wines. This one is juicey, so easy to drink!

About the Producer
The great Bass Phillip Estate is one of Australia’s most iconic producers. For decades Phillip Jones has farmed his Gippsland plot with adherence to organic and biodynamic farming, the meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard yielding one of Australia’s truly world class wines. The Bass Phillip Pinot Noir is a benchmark wine, rightfully one of the most collected in the country. Jones’ wines are incredible. They are wines of power, personality and persistence.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
