- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Aussie Barbera often misses the mark, but Ben Crossing's rendition out of Orange is one of the real go-to's. It's just a beautiful drink. Medium-bodied with waves of red fruits that have been dipped in chocolate, a little spice and it has just enough oak and whole bunch inclusion to round things out. It's just one of those reds that's hard to put down, and God help you if you happen across some pizza... Delicious!
What it Tastes Like
It’s loaded with ripe raspberry jam and cherry chocolate flavours and smells. And that’s all part of its charm. Soft even flow of fruit, the sweet red berries grooving its way through the mouth. Good drinking here. Super friendly red. Sweet, savoury, bit of grip. What more could you want in Barbera at this price?
The grapes were de-stemmed with 20% left as whole berries. 25% of the blend was matured in French oak to add complexity to the fresh and vibrant primary fruit flavours. About the Producer
Angullong is at once one of Orange’s most consistent and innovative producers. Family owned and led by hard-working frontman Ben Crossing, Angullong’s range contains classic Orange varieties like Sauv Blanc and Shiraz, but it’s their exploration of alternative grapes like Barbera, Tempranillo, Sangiovese and Savagnin that really excites us. All their wines represent outstanding value for money.
The wine scene in Orange is alive and kicking. With each vintage that passes the bar of quality is raised again and again. Pinot Noir is a potential champion for the region but for now Shiraz, Chardonnay, Riesling and Cabernet are the flag bearers. The cool climate and the high altitude vineyards are producing wines of finesse and class and there is some ripping value to be had in this region.
