- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
With fruit from the premium growing regions in Tasmania in hot demand from winemakers, good value Pinot Noir is becoming harder and harder to find from this part of the country. This is a Tasmanian Pinot that really over-delivers. Sourced from the vineyards run by Helen and Gerald Phillips in the Western Tamar Valley and made by Jeremy Dineen (Josef Chromy winemaker), this drinks beautifully as a young wine with just a little bit more grunt than you might expect at the price.
What it Tastes Like
Blueberry and raspberry characters underpinned by a savoury, undergrowth character. The tannins are fine and powdery. The fruit ripeness is spot on. A dangerously drinkable Pinot Noir with a bit of spunk.
2015 saw exceptionally low yields again with around 60% of a ‘regular’ crop. Following fermentation with natural yeasts it was gently pressed then aged in used French oak barriques on fine lees, after which it was patiently tank settled before being bottled unfined with a very course filtration.
Closure: Screw Cap
Bottle Size: 750ml
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
