A gentle touch with powerful fruit is the theme of this beguiling Pinot Noir from Ben & Sarah Chipman.
The fruit comes from a single vineyard in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Ben using his life-long connections with top growers in the area to secure the best fruit possible.
This was gently pressed over a 20 hour period for delicate extraction and to preserve all of the natural nuances that the Hannaford vineyard imparts on this variety.
No additions save a whisper of sulphur at bottling. This is a classy natural Pinot Noir of depth and presence.
Only 60 dozen made.
What It Tastes Like
Red and black cherry fruit, an earth spiced note on the nose. It’s a lush style, generous fruit framed by fine, firm structure. It’s fleshy to drink and feels fresh and elemental with a touch of undergrowth and natural mushroomy funk to close. A masculine Pinot Noir with personality.
100% MV6 clone grown on the Hannaford vineyard. 50% whole bunches, the rest whole berries. Long slow 20-hour basket press cycle for finesse. Aged for 18 months in old French hogsheads. 13% alcohol. 600 litres produced. This is classic sturdy deeply structured Pinot Noir from the MV6 workhorse clone. A masculine expression for food.
Bottle Size: 750ml
Drink Until: 2022
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
