This has charisma. Old rose petals, sweet pot pourri, pepper, Chinese five spice, dark cherries. Great bouquet, evocative and enticing. Palate is juicy, deep in flavour, richer than expected but tied down on peeling waves of building, puckering, suede tannins. Has a sexy brushed velvet feel to it across it’s huge length. Antipasto watch out. Sensational drinking.”

Fruit was hand picked, destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeast. Maceration for 45 days. Post pressing the wine was racked to barrique and 700l barrel for 12 months for malo (indigenous bacteria) and maturation.

About the Producer
Col McBryde and Jennie Gardner are Adelina. A pair of smart cookies, each rocking a PhD in microbiology and between them some pretty serious winemaking chops. Together, they have formed one of the Clare Valley’s most exciting wineries. From what was a small operation that began in 2002, slowly but surely the Adelina brand has been picking up steam.
There is a delicacy and purity inherent in every wine they produce. From opulent old vine Shiraz and Mataro, to one of the country’s most excellent Nebbiolo and a set of scintillating Rieslings, there is a sense of class and refinement to the whole project. These meticulously crafted, beautifully presented wines are just a joy to drink.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Nebbiolo is one of the world’s truly great wine grapes. Most famously produced in the Italian regions of Barolo and Barbaresco, this king-pin of varieties is making a surge on Australian soil. A notoriously late ripening variety, Australian producers are constantly refining the way they grow this grape. Nebbiolo wines are light to medium bodied with incredible internal power and structure. These wines can live for decades when grown on the right sites. The classic descriptors of ‘tar & roses’ are often applied to this variety but the scope for complexity and nuance in the best versions is virtually limitless. The life of a great Nebbiolo as it matures through the years is one of the great wonders in all of wine.
