- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
Here we have yet another rising star from the Adelaide Hills region. Turon White doesn’t even have his own winery yet, but the quality of his first few releases are excellent.
This Shiraz is from a vineyard in the Mount Barker sub-region made with around 20% whole bunches and 18 months in French oak.
It’s a cracking release, one that has put him on the map in a short amount of time. Campbell Mattinson commented on the 2015 that, “If this is what to expect, then Turon is a name to note… Everything is in excellent order, including the asking price. “ and awarded it 94 points.
A great first release from a firey young producer and with only 55 dozen made, it won’t be around for long!
What It Tastes Like
“If this is what to expect, then Turon is a name to note. This hits the nail flush. Cloves, peppers, dried spices, velvety texture and fresh, exuberant, black cherried fruit, enlivened by touches of cranberry, fennel root and boysenberry. It’s almost meaty but not quite; a good place to sit. Tannin if firm/fine and length is impressive. Everything is in excellent order, including the asking price.” - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
94 points. “Adelaide Hills shiraz by winemaker Turon White, who’s in the process of building a winery at Lenswood. This shiraz is from the Mount Barker sub-region. It was wild yeast fermented, saw 20% whole bunches, was basket pressed and then spent 18 months in French. Not a foot wrong by the sound and taste. Only 55 cases produced.

92 points “From Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills. Turon White is the ambitious young wine producer, here naturally fermenting shiraz, with 15% whole bunches included, then sending the juice to used oak for 18 months. Get amongst it.
Spicy from the get go, the wine reeks of squashed red currants and raspberry, shows sniffs of pepper and Dr Pepper, light touch of herbs. Medium weight but juicy and sleek in the palate with thirst crushing acidity and light peppery finish. Just sits in that any-old-time drinking groove, with a little satiny finesse.”
- Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Turon White is a young, articulate and intelligent winemaker - the kind we need more of in this country. His mission to drill down, not only into variety and region but the sub-region, the site and the clone is one that is ahead of the curve in much of the Australian wine industry. With only a few vintages under his belt with the Turon label so far, the future seems bright for this great new Adelaide Hills talent.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
