- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
When hunting for the best Pinot Noir he could find in the Adelaide Hills, young Turon White found two vineyards, one a north-facing vineyard in Norton Summit and the other a south-facing vineyard in Woodside.
Different clones, different aspects and different soils, how to choose?
He picked both vineyards by hand and with a small amount of whole bunch naturally fermented both parcels together. He thinks the two different batches of fruit are the “bones and flesh” of the wine. Whatever it is, the wine is simply delicious.
Mike Bennie though it a, “Breezy, easy to like wine here. Has a good character of pinot, high drinkability.” and we thought it was a brilliant first attempt at Pinot Noir from a producer that clearly has a big future ahead of him.
What It Tastes Like
“Whiffs of dried cranberry, cherry, pot pourri, has those ‘nice pinot’ scents with a dash of savouriness. Good juicy start to wine, savoury fleshiness of cherry and currants, has an autumnal earthiness, garam masala spice, yeah!, whips through to light, dry, dusty-spicy finish. Breezy, easy to like wine here. Has a good character of pinot, high drinkability.” - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)

About the Producer
Turon White is a young, articulate and intelligent winemaker - the kind we need more of in this country. His mission to drill down, not only into variety and region but the sub-region, the site and the clone is one that is ahead of the curve in much of the Australian wine industry. With only a few vintages under his belt with the Turon label so far, the future seems bright for this great new Adelaide Hills talent.
The Adelaide Hills may be the most energised wine region in the country. The sense of exploration and creativity amongst the tribe of talented young winemakers in this region is unparralelled. The Hills has become crucible of Australian wine talent, offering an array of varieties, from classics such as Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to new varieties like Nebbiolo and Grüner Veltliner for the younger generation to play with. Every vintage brings new colour and complexity to the rich wine, food and produce culture of this cool climate region.
No variety captures the hearts and minds of the wine lover quite like Pinot Noir. It’s the unicorn of many a winemaker. Notoriously fickle to grow, this delicate red variety can deliver a kaleidoscope of flavours and aromas, from the bright and floral to the moody and mysterious and everything in between. The cooler regions of Australia are where Pinot Noir is most at home. Look to Tasmania and Victoria for the best examples, with some quality wines beginning to show from the Great Southern and from the cooler parts of NSW. Falling in love with Pinot Noir can be a life long affair, beware the charms of this most enchanting of grapes.
