- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
The wines from Remi Guise carry a wild and raucous quality. Each wine in the stable comes with its own distinct personality derived from the soils where the fruit is grown. In the case of the 2014 tripe.Iscariot Brawn Chardonnay, that personality is aristocratic Margaret River Chardonnay meets wild thing ruffian. This is a complex, furiously textural wine with immense amounts of drinking pleasure to unleash. Mike Bennie was seduced by it in his 95 point review reiterating three times that the wine is indeed superb. Margaret River fans will know that outstanding Chardonnay from this region doesn't come along at this price often. Get stuck in.
What it Tastes Like
"This is superb. I couldn’t stop drinking it. So much pure, rich-ish chardonnay grape flavour, so much depth, so much freshness, mineral licks, kiss of saline freshness, what doesn’t it have (aside stacks of oak)?. It’s persistent and palate staining but in that gloriously moreish way. You’d say its medium weight and gently honeyed amongst the fresh fruitiness, but the way that sea spray acidity holds the wine together is just superb. It’s a bolter. It’s just superb." - Mike Bennie (The Wine Front)
95 points. "Winemaker Remi Guise reminded me I had this note on hold from a while back. Slipped through the cracks. He’s the one making all that fantastic chenin out of Margaret River. Well, here’s another white wine looking sensational. Margaret River chardonnay via Jura, perhaps, and that’s a positive. This is superb. I couldn’t stop drinking it. Gin Gin clone grown on granite loam over granite in Karridale, Margaret River. Hand-picked Chardonnay grapes, 25% of which are fermented as whole-bunches, submerged under un-clarified juice extracted from the other 75% which were cold-pressed as whole-bunches. Towards the end of the fermentation the juice/wine was removed from around the whole-bunches and the mostly fermented whole-bunches were basket pressed and combined with removed juice/wine. The wine then finished fermentation in oak barrels. The wine was barrel aged for 9 months, during which the barrels underwent battonage every two weeks. The wine was then removed from barrel, clarified and bottled.

About the Producer
Remi Guise is starting something very compelling in Western Australia. His idea for the winery tripe.Iscariot centres around the thesis that from ‘berry to stalk’ the whole of the plant should be used in the winemaking process. No waste, no ‘cleaning up’ of the wines. Driving to make the most character filled and unique wines that any site can produce. The wines are fascinating and complex. Dig in, his is a project to keep a close eye on.
Margaret River is recognised as one of the country’s finest wine growing regions. The quality of the region’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rival the very best in the world. But Margaret River is no two-trick-pony. There, Tempranillo and Malbec are excelling, Touriga Nacional seems to be quite at home, Chenin Blanc is getting serious and even pockets of Nebbiolo are rearing their heads. Watch this space. Who knows what new surprises are just around the corner from this famous region.
Australian Chardonnay is a seductive variety that comes in all shapes and sizes. From the toasty and voluptuous to the lean, flinty and minerally, there is a Chardonnay out there to suit everyone. Australia’s developing prowess with this variety has been marked by the international community with wine writers such as Jancis Robinson marvelling at the outstanding value to be had right across the country. The prestige brands of Margaret River offer wines of deep flavour and power, often crafting fuller-figured Chardonnay of outstanding quality. The cooler-climate wines from the Yarra Valley, Tasmania and the like are more focused and linear, building complexity around a backbone of pristine acidity. Whatever your preference, there is an Australian Chardonnay to enchant all comers.
