- The Home of Artisan Australian Wine!
This wine comes with a story, literally. On the label is transcribed a 600-word single sentence inner monologue written by Leah Swan. It's a stunning piece of prose - almost as good as what's inside the bottle.... Almost. This Shiraz comes from roughly 17-year-old vines planted on three vineyards in and around the Grampians. It's a wine of rare beauty at this price-point. Lovers of cool-climate Shiraz, this one is for you. Campbell Mattinson was totally enamoured with it. In his brilliantly crafted 95 point review he claims that, "If this was double its price I’d still be tempted." If you are a fan of the wonderful wines from this part of the world, you simply will not find better value than this.
What it Tastes Like
"The wine itself is outstanding. So beautifully fruited, balanced and structured. It’s alive with woody herbs, floral notes, olives, nuts and dark cherry-plum. There’s an edge of smokiness, almost a meatiness, along with traces of cracked black peppers. Feeling the curl of tannin here as it breaks through your mouth is like watching a wave form; it has that same kind or irresistible momentum, and that same kind of beauty. If this was double its price I’d still be tempted." - Campbell Mattinson (The Wine Front)
95 points. "Made from vines now 18+ years old. The wine comes with a bonus short story printed on the label, the result/winner of the Overland Story Wine Prize. The winning story was penned by this-won’t-be-the-last-time-you-hear-this-name Leah Swann. A disclaimer: I was on the panel of judges. The wine itself is outstanding. Leah Swann’s “That Inward Eye” is a 600wd internal monologue comprised of a single sentence. A stunning piece of writing. The Story Wines will continue to feature works of Australian short fiction as the years go on. The wine is a fantastic vintage, redolent of blackberries and spice, with smooth texture and a clean, juicy finish of fine tannin. Hyde Paark Vineyard, Rice’s Vineyard, and Westgate Vineyard went in to the blend. one of our least forced and most enjoyable “grampians” wines to date.

About the Producer
The Story makes its home base in a Melbourne suburb.
With the fruit that comes in from Henty and the Grampians, winemaker Rory Lane attempts to tell the full story of a wine, from picking to the bottle. The wines are made with care and detail, and consistently recieve rave reviews. This is a story you want to know.
Long held up to the rest of the world as Australia’s flagship red variety, the mighty Australian Shiraz has undergone something of a renaissance over the past two decades. While our robust styles of Shiraz from powerhouse South Australian regions such as the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale may have put Australian wine on the map, Shiraz from our cooler regions are giving the variety a new look. Wines from Canberra, all parts of Victoria, the Adelaide Hills, and the Great Southern, are all delivering wines of finesse and spice set to a lighter framework. The tapestry of Australian Shiraz is richly diverse, and will only continue to develop and mature into the future.
