_Spinifex are one of the Barossa's leading producers._ Husband and wife team of Peter Schell and Magali Gely have extensive winemaking experience in the south of France, which proves the inspiration for their unique wines made from predominantly Rhone varietals. The 2014 Esprit is much heavier on the Grenache component than previous years, the quality of the Grenache fruit demanding front and centre stage in this iteration of the blend. As Peter says, "The 2014 has a real prettiness to it, it's a different beast to the more savoury 2013. It's one of my favourite vintages of Esprit to date." This, as with all Spinifex's wines, is balanced to perfection. If you love old vine Barossa Grenache, value-wise the Esprit is as good as you will find from any producer in the region.
What it Tastes Like
Cherry, raspberry, clove and awesome balance. Love the firmness of tannin here. Love the purity of fruit. It feels elemental, sleek and refined. Gorgeous Grenache. A fresher, less adorned version of Barossa Grenache.
Predominantly Grenache (91%) with Mataro (7% ) and Cinsault (2%). Sourced from old vineyards on the northern, western and eastern edges of the Barossa Valley and from Moculta and Springton in Eden Valley. Vine ages range from 75 to over 150 years, all are dry grown. All vineyards are hand harvested, whole bunch inclusion averaged 45 % and macerations varied from between 8-18 days. Elevage was undertaken on light lees in seasoned demi-muid, foudres and stainless steel. Bottled without filtration.

Spinifex was on the front line of the new wave of Barossa producers. Peter’s wines brought a new sensibility to the region, they were lower in alcohol, concentrated but elegant, and balanced to perfection. He takes the art of blending into the realm of the virtuoso.
